Good news for iPhone users who use a PC! Microsoft announced today that it is starting to roll out iPhone support in Windows 11’s Phone Link app.

In a blog post, the company says the feature will be available to all Windows 11 users worldwide by mid-May. With the Phone Link app for Windows 11 and the Link to Windows app for iOS, iPhone users can make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and view notifications right on their PC.

How to download Phone Link?

If you are an Insider* who benefits from the preview of Phone Link for iOS, you will now be able to choose from the Phone Link home page between iPhone and an Android device.

Here are the steps to take advantage of Phone Link:

  1. Coupler son iPhone : Pairing iPhone with Windows PC is quite simple. It starts with the flash of a QR code displayed on your screen. Then you will go to the confirmation steps which will help us confirm that the phone and the PC are in range.
  2. Login Code Confirmation : Once pairing is complete, you will be asked to grant a set of permissions that will allow us to sync all your favorite content with Phone Link.
  3. Grant the right permissions : Give Windows PC access to your iMessage.

*Warning: If a “coming soon” message appears, this means that you do not yet benefit from this preview.

How to use iMessage on Phone Link?

Windows 11 supports iMessage, but there are several limitations. This is because the app does not support group chats, photos, videos, and chat history beyond the current chat session.

All messages appear as gray bubbles in the Phone Link app, which means iMessages are indistinguishable from text messages on a PC. Also, messages are only transmitted to a PC if the iPhone is connected via Bluetooth. Microsoft says iPhone must be running iOS 14 or later, and that feature isn’t available for iPad or Mac.

A clumsy solution

All in all, this is a rather clumsy workaround for Apple’s lack of real iMessage support on Windows. But it has the merit of existing for iPhone users who have a PC. Microsoft has been testing iOS support for the Phone Link app in beta since February.

The deployment of the application will take place for the general public during the month of May.
