How to stop appearing online on WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is an application that helps with many factors, but it can also become a place where people feel uncomfortable because others can somehow manage their time and for that the platform has many privacy settings and one of them is to hide the ‘online’.

This small warning can often become a problem with someone and surely some will choose to remain a little more undercover so that they do not monitor their access to the application.

So you can remove the online from WhatsApp

The ‘online’ prompt appears whenever you open the app and will go away a few seconds after you close it. Until a few days ago, hiding that was not possible, but recently WhatsApp made an update so it is a matter of days for all users to have it.

The button to remove this information will allow you to configure it in two different ways: “Everyone” and “Same as last seen”. For example, if you choose “My contacts” for “Last seen” and “Same as last seen” for “online”, it means that non-contacts will not be able to see when you are online.

You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp options menu (the three vertical dots at the top right)
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Press the first one, Account, and within it go to Privacy
  4. The first option is no longer Last Time, but has changed and there are now two: Last Time and Online.
  5. In Time of last time you can choose who can see the last time you were connected to WhatsApp: Everyone, everyone who has your WhatsApp; My contacts, only those you have in the phone book; My contacts, except…, so you can choose which contacts can’t see you and which ones can: or directly Nobody.
  6. In ‘Online’ you can choose who you want to see you online when you enter WhatsApp. You can choose to be seen by Everyone, or use the Same as last time option depending on whether you have the above option set.
  7. As before, the options you choose are replicated in your contacts. That is, if you choose that nobody can see your last hour connected to WhatsApp or when you are online, you will not be able to see that in your contacts either.
