Is it possible to transfer WhatsApp to SD memory card?
No. You cannot transfer WhatsApp to your SD card. However, you can transfer your folders (eg media and backups) to free up your phone’s internal storage. This is possible by accessing your WhatsApp folder, selecting the ones you want to transfer, and moving them to your phone’s SD card.
Below, see how to free up space on your smartphone:
1. Via File Explorer
One of the best ways to move all whatsapp media to your SD card is using your phone’s file manager. That is, you don’t need to download any additional applications or connect your phone to your computer.
For that:
- Find and open the app file explorer on your Android phone. Depending on your cell phone model, the application will be called My files / Files / File Explorer;
- Then there will be two storage options: Internal Storage (sometimes called Device Storage) and External Storage (also known as an SD card). Access the internal storage, as this is where WhatsApp data is stored;
- Scroll until you find the Whatsapp folder and open it;
- Access the folder Media. In it will be all media files you sent and received on WhatsAppincluding Status Updates (though they are deleted after 24 hours);
- select the option More in the top right corner of your phone and tap Mover;

2. Via file management application
Another way to transfer files is via the file management app on your cell phone. An example of this is ES File Explorer. To use it:
- Go to your smartphone’s app store;
- Then download ES File Explorer (Android |iOS);
- After installing, open it and tap Internal Storage;
- Once that’s done, you’ll see all the files and folders that are on your device’s internal storage. Find and open the folder WhatsApp;
- Then locate the folder Medialocated inside the WhatsApp folder and choose the option Cut;
- Finally, access the section SD and create a new folder named WhatsApp. Paste the cut files into the newly created folder.
3. Via computer
Another great way to transfer Whatsapp to SD card is using your computer. This guide will explain how to do this using a PC com Windowsbut you can also use a Mac or Chromebook to transfer.
- Connect your phone/tablet to computer using USB cable;
- Then tap My computer to find your phone and click on it;
- Click Internal Storage to open it;
