How to “write” the Apple logo on iPhone, iPad and Mac

Although the manipulation is no longer a surprise for many of you, it is always interesting to return to some tips and tricks available on Mac and iOS.

If you have a Mac, you can type the Apple logo symbol with a single press of the corresponding key. But you’ll never find it by chance, and it takes more skill to do it on an iPhone or iPad.

Apple is strangely hesitant about its logo. There’s no sign of it in the myriad icons and emoticons available in Messages, for example.

But if you’re on a Mac, you can encode it with a little keyboard shortcut. On the other hand, if you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you’ll have to cheat a bit.

How to Get the Apple Logo Symbol on Mac

The trick is valid on any Mac, in any application:

  • Hold the Option key;
  • Press on ” & “.

You can even do it in the Finder. If you prefix a document name with the Apple logo, it will be listed at the bottom of the list in alphabetical order.

If you’re doing it in a word processor, there are options to adjust the logo. You can mainly change the size of it to suit your text: it is an inline, typed symbol, so by changing the font size you also change the icon size.

How to Get Apple Logo Symbol on iPhone

This trick is also valid on iPad. If you have a Magic Keyboard with your iPad, or possibly other Bluetooth keyboards connected to the iPad or iPhone, you can type the same shortcut as on Mac, namely: option key and “&”

If you don’t have an external keyboard, there’s no way to type the Apple logo on iOS or iPadOS. In fact, it is available on these devices. It can thus be displayed, it is only its installation which requires a slight manipulation.

To get started, the easiest and quickest thing to do is find the symbol online, then copy and paste it.

Then go to your iPhone settings, select General then the menu Keyboard. First check the option Predictionthen go to the tab Replacement.

Add a replacement by pressing the “+” button at the top right and then paste the Apple logo into Expression.

You can then enter your shortcut such as “Apple”, “Logo” or “LogoApple” in Shortcut, this will be used to trigger the keyboard proposal. Then press Save.

However, this is not ideal if you need to regularly use the symbol for some reason. But once you’ve done that, you can make your iPhone, iPad, or Mac remember it for you with Text Replacement.

You just have to type your shortcut word then validate the keyboard prediction to see the logo appear. We tested it on several versions of iOS, the manipulation works every time (iOS 9, iOS 10, iOS 11, iOS 12, iOS 13…).
