With the help of an excavator, a construction worker rips the last three wooden pillars out of the ground. The pegs in Trumau, Lower Austria, are a good ten meters high, and until recently a sign recorded what was being built between the corn and vegetable fields: now the eight wind turbines speak for themselves – following all, they tower more than 100 meters into the sky. Surrounded by the same fields, 17,888 photovoltaic (PV) panels absorb solar energy. They cover an area the size of 13 football pitches. Wind turbines and a PV system together form a so-called hybrid power plant.
