HSV Handball: Without 13 professionals only 27:29 in Hanover! Hull was trump – sport mix

“We will give an image that is not worthy of the Bundesliga,” said HSV managing director Sebastian Frecke beforehand. How beautifully he was wrong…

His handball players lost 27:29 (13:11) in Hanover. But amazing what HSV conjured up on the record in front of 2954 spectators.

Due to the injured Tissier, Weller, Ossenkopp, Kleineidam, Bergemann, Feit, the Corona failures Axmann, Bauer, Gertges, Forstbauer, Vortmann, as well as Andersen (cold) and Bitter (stomach), 13 professionals were missing. A transfer of the game had been rejected. Coach Torsten Jansen only had a core squad.

And she grew beyond herself. Goalkeeper Jonas Maier (28/actually number 3 and active in the 5th division) unnerved the Hannover warriors in the first 30 minutes with eight (!) of his ten saves. Right winger Mats Quardfasel (19) and middleman Max Niemann (18) from the A youth came in early – and threw their premiere goals in the Bundesliga ripped off. In the last few minutes, Alexander Most (19, district) and Alexander Pinski (19, goal) were also allowed in.

“I liked some things very, very, very much,” praised Jansen afterwards.

But not the referees. Two whistle errors (2 minutes late, no red after a face slap against Valiullin) threw HSV out of the game and the Recken got back into the game six minutes before the end (it was still 25:24). Jansen: “We also did a few stupid things at the front…”

Doesn’t matter. Hull was trump. HSV can be proud.

As Max said in his first live TV interview: “Of course it was a dream. The madness.” Maier: “The fight and passion we put into it was very special. We can return to Hamburg with our heads held high.”

Tore: Mortensen 10/3, Theilinger 5, Niemann 3, Valiullin 3, Quardfasel 2, Schimmelbauer 2, Wullenweber 2.
