After HTC’s initial hints about a new U series smartphone, various live images of the supposed U23 Pro 5G featuring the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 have surfaced online.
HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, may not be at the forefront of the Android smartphone market as other companies have taken over. However, they are still releasing new phones, albeit at an extended rate. The Desire 22 Pro was marketed last year as the “first metaverse smartphone” but failed to make an impact.
Ahead of its one-year anniversary, HTC has hinted at another metaverse-focused phone. Recently leaked images provide more information about this upcoming mid-range phone, which is said to be called HTC U23 Pro 5G, including details about its hardware specifications.
And from the leaks, HTC did not learn its lesson. See, part of the reason HTC has stopped their game is because they haven’t equipped their devices with specs that can match the competition.

HTC U23 Pro 5G: Design
Images of the HTC U23 Pro 5G come from the Chinese post ptt.cc. These images indicate that the U23 Pro 5G will have a plastic frame and back panel. This is disappointing and a bit shocking since then, according to Sh/Aquis_GNThe U23 Pro is supposed to be a mid-range phone.
The leaks also indicate that the device will have an AMOLED screen. But there is no word on whether the screen will feature a fast refresh rate. The AMOLED display would be a big upgrade over last year’s Desire 22 Pro’s LCD display.
performance and storage specifications
Leaked images of the U23 Pro 5G being tested using the AIDA54 tool have revealed that it will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. The U23 Pro will also have at least 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a mid-range 5G chip built on Samsung’s 4nm process. This SoC was announced last year along with the 8 Gen 1 and is also present in the Xiaomi 13 Lite. This would be a huge performance jump over the Desire 22 Pro’s Snapdragon 695 from last year.

The primary rear camera is expected to be 108MP with OIS, but information on other sensors is not available yet.
Other specifications
The model shown in the photos has the model number 2QC9100. However, digital leaker Abhishek Yadav found two more models, 2QC9200 and 2QCB100 (according to GSMArena). Yadav also claims that the phone will come pre-installed with Android 13.
According to the leaked images, the U23 Pro 5G will have a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the phone. The SIM card slot will be next to the USB-C charging port. The phone is expected to have a 4,600mAh battery with support for wireless charging.
When will we see the HTC U23 Pro 5G?
The Desire 22 Pro release date was in June last year. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that HTC may plan to launch the U23 Pro 5G around the same time in 2023.
Conclusion
I’d like to see HTC return to the Android flagship market, just like we’re seeing with Motorola. But this may take a few years. However, I hope that the upcoming HTC U23 Pro 5G will get some hype in the markets where it will be launched.
