A Huawei returned to be global leader in the 5G patent ranking, managing to overcome competitors such as Qualcomm and Samsung. The information was shared by the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology.

According to a report by the agency, Huawei’s essential patents account for 14.59% of the total market. On the other hand, the American Qualcomm appears in second place with 10.04%.

Complete the podium, Samsung with 8.80% of the patents of essential technologies for the operation of the new mobile connection technology.

In addition to the three companies mentioned at the top of the ranking, other companies also stand out for registering several patents that help in the evolution of the 5G standard.

Names on the list include:

ZTE LG Nokia Ericson Comes OPPO Xiaomi

The data also shows that there is clear competition between Chinese and Western companies for the bulk of 5G patents. This is the result of the trade war between China and the United States, with Huawei being one of the companies most affected by American controls.

Even so, China has managed to advance both in 5G and in research and development of the next mobile connection technology: 6G.

Rumors indicate that Huawei will also soon return to producing 5G-enabled cell phones and this could mark the manufacturer’s return to the global smartphone market.
