Hugo Moyano, on the conflict of truckers in San Nicolás: “We categorically deny that there has been a blockade”

“We categorically deny that there has been a blockade”was the first thing said by the general secretary of the Buenos Aires Truck Drivers Union, Hugo Moyanoregarding the conflict with the guild in the Buenos Aires city of St nicolas. “It is an absolutely political situation, created by sectors that have the responsibility to do justice,” accused the leader.

At a press conference, Moyano accused the opposition: “They are trying to put together something where they intend to make society believe that the workers were there to extort money. It is all a total lie, and I think it is part of the campaign that these gentlemen who were in the previous government began to make a disaster.

For the trade unionist, former president Mauricio Macri is “against the union organization trying to intimidate us.” However, he assured that “all this that they are doing strengthens us more. We are going to continue defending the rights of the worker because they intend to bend us, but they are not going to succeed”, encouraged Moyano. He also said that there is a “alert and mobilization before the outrage of Justice”.

After the waste collection service in San Nicolás was suspended for three days, blocking access to the city, the Truckers’ union lifted the strike. The force measure was carried out after the arrest of two trade unionists for blocking a company in San Pedro four years ago.

Moyano said that “we have always respected the rights of the men of Justice, now we want them to respect our rights.” He stated that the two employees were “wrongfully” fired.

“This that happened in San Nicolás is a total absurdity, it is a perfect demonstration that these gentlemen of Justice are at the service of the dominant power”. And he sentenced: “Neither Macri nor those who belong to the State Department are going to scare us.”

The conflict began last Friday from a protest over the arrest of two unionists, prosecuted for blocking a company in San Pedro, in 2018.

“He lost the extortion,” was the first thing the local mayor said, Manuel Passaglia (Together for Change), once the measure of force was lifted. “The waste collection company has just informed the municipality that they are lifting the strike and several carriers confirm that tomorrow [por hoy] they circulate again. We celebrate the measure that brings relief to the residents of San Nicolás,” added the official.
