Two hunters were chased by a bear with a cub in Trentino. One of the two men was injured while trying to escape, local media reported on Sunday. The encounter took place on a path above the municipality of Roncone.
The two hunters started from Roncone in the morning to go hiking. Suddenly they saw a sleeping bear who woke up and was chasing the two young men. They ran away screaming. According to media reports, one of the two men fled up a tree and fell down because the bear caught him with a claw. He suffered a bruised rib and was taken to the Tione City Hospital.
The forest corps canine unit was on site and conducted the investigation to reconstruct the exact course of events and retrieve the backpack of the two men. Genetic samples were then taken to clarify the animal’s identity.
Just a few days ago, a bear was sighted in Roncone roaming the streets of the village. On April 5, a 26-year-old jogger was killed by a female bear.
