Hurricanes defeat Capitals in front of 57,000 fans

In their first-ever outdoor game in the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 in front of a crowd of around 57,000 at Carter Finley Stadium, home of college football team NC State Wolfpack.

The “Canes” should have held the game as part of the “Stadium Series” in 2021, but the game was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Without superstar Alex Ovechkin, who is pausing for an indefinite period after the death of his father (read HERE >>>), the Capitals lack any offensive power.

Carolina dominates

After just over two minutes, Carolina was in the lead after Jesperi Kotkaniemi (3rd) made it 1-0. The host determines what happens in the game and pulls away in the middle third.

Paul Stastny (26th) beats Washington keeper Darcy Kuemper from close range to make it 2-0, in the power play Martin Necas (29th/PP) makes it 3-0 in Ovechkin style. The Czech positions himself in the left face-off circle, his one-timer hits the net unsustainably. Teuvo Teravainen (32nd) makes it 4-0.

Tom Wilson (51st) is only doing cosmetic results with his goal.
