A model that has intensified in corporations around the world due to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, hybrid work should be a reality for 39% of global workers by the end of this year. This is what attests research carried out by Gartner, which raised the numbers among a portion of professionals called knowledge workers and who do not necessarily need to be at the company’s headquarters to perform their duties.

In the consultancy’s research, the hybrid model is highlighted as one in which the professional needs to go to the workplace at least once a week. In 2023, Gartner reported a 2% increase in the number of global hybrid workers estimated last year. Remote work, in which professionals work at home all the time, has been on a downward trend since the cases of Covid-19 began to decrease. The estimate is that by the end of the year, remote workers will represent only 9% of workers worldwide.

In Brazil, according to a survey released by Datafolha at the end of 2022, 52% of workers said they preferred remote or hybrid work, showing that professionals still resist returning or accepting offers in the 100% face-to-face model. In this scenario, the development of projects with the participation of several teams can be a challenge.

With more than 10 years of experience in project management in the Information Technology (IT) area, Junior Neves Galvão explains that there are some strategies that can be used to guarantee the fulfillment of the objectives of the project to be developed. “To make it work, especially with remote teams and the need for collaboration in complex projects, it is essential that the project manager, both in the IT area and in multidisciplinary areas, adopt effective strategies to guarantee the success of the project and the satisfaction of the customers. stakeholders,” he says.

He says that one of the main strategies is to establish a good communication plan between the project teams. In this plan, it is necessary to define how the teams will communicate, in which channel and how often. In addition, Galvão reinforces that the project manager needs to ensure that the team is aligned with the project’s objectives, in which each member needs to be aware of their responsibilities and deadlines.

“One of the main strategies is to invest in clear communication, with the adoption of specific tools for this purpose. There are several options available in the market that allow real-time collaboration, file sharing and task management. And it is essential to choose the right tools and ensure that all team members are familiar with their use”, explains the professional, adding that it is also important “to keep in mind that, even with the use of these tools, it is necessary to guarantee engagement and commitment of all team members to the project.

Clear goals and open and transparent communication are important

In the challenge of uniting teams that work in different locations around a goal, project manager Junior Neves Galvão emphasizes that, in addition to establishing clear communication and defining the communication tools used throughout the process, it is important to define realistic goals and indicators clear to the project. He explains that this helps keep all team members focused on the project’s goals and allows the manager to assess progress and make adjustments along the way.

“Project management for remote or hybrid teams can be challenging, but with the right strategies, it can be done. Investing in clear and frequent communication, defining clear goals and indicators and having leadership skills are fundamental to guarantee the success of the project”, he comments.

Remaining open to team feedback and showing transparency in communications and task direction is also essential for the project to be completed within the defined scope and timeframes. “It is important that the manager be available to clarify doubts, give feedbacks and recognize good performance. It is essential that the team feels supported and motivated, even if they are not physically present. With these measures, it is possible to successfully manage remote or hybrid team projects and obtain positive results”, concludes Galvão.
