Hydro-Québec will replace the six turbine-alternator groups and auxiliary services at the René-Lévesque power station on the North Shore.

Remember that the Manic-3 power plant has been in operation since 1975. This work is part of Hydro-Québec’s 2035 action plan to increase electricity production in existing installations.

The six groups of the Manic-3 plant already produce 1,240 megawatts. With new generation turbine-generators, Hydro-Québec hopes to increase power by 20 to 35%.

A similar project had already been in the pipeline for the state company in 2006.

Work should begin in 2025 and end in 2033, according to Hydro-Québec.

Depending on the scenario envisaged, the site will accommodate between 100 and 240 workers. Hydro-Québec might build a camp to house workers while the site is in operation.

The Chamber of Commerce is currently in discussions with Hydro-Québec to ensure that the maximum economic benefits are in Manicouagan.

The investments required for this project have not yet been quantified.
