Hyundai Motor partners with Boston Dynamics

The manufacturer and the consulting firm have collaborated in the creation of an institute, called Boston Dynamics AI Institute. Through this structure, Hyundai intends to conduct research on artificial intelligence and robotics of the future.

The Hyundai and Boston Dynamics groups will invest 400 million dollars at the start of their adventure.

Yet another step for Hyundai Motor in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The South Korean group has announced that it has joined forces with Boston Dynamics to found a structure called Boston Dynamics AI Institute.

To make their idea a reality, the two groups decided to inject 400 million dollars. The institute, whose management has been entrusted to Marc Raibertthe founder of Boston Dynamics, will establish its headquarters in the heart of the Kendall Square research community in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Through this entity, Hyundai and the consulting firm intend to carry out research in the register of artificial intelligence, robotics and intelligent machines. Four fields will be explored by the teams: cognitive AI, sports AI, organic material design and ethical and political issues.

The unique structure of this institute will allow us to develop robots that are easier to use, more productive, able to perform a wide range of tasks, and safer to collaborate with human beings.” explained Marc Raibert.
