Hyundai Motor suspends EPL sponsorship for Chelsea, disqualifies owner Abramovich

[서울파이낸스 권진욱 기자] The English Premier League (EPL) board has disqualified Roman Abramovic from being a member of the Chelsea club. Hyundai Motor Company has decided to stop sponsoring Chelsea.

According to foreign media reports such as Archyde.com on the 12th (local time), the Premier League board announced that the board of directors of Chelsea owner Abramović would be disqualified in accordance with the UK government’s decision to impose sanctions.

Abramovich, an oligarchy with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has recently been placed on the Western sanctions list.

He had announced that he would sell the Chelsea club on the 2nd, before sanctions were imposed.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has suspended its contract with Chelsea. Hyundai Motor Company said, “Until further notice, we have decided to suspend marketing and communication activities with Chelsea.”

It is known that Hyundai Motor Company has been sponsoring £10 million (16 billion won) a year since 2018, including putting the company logo on the sleeves of Chelsea jerseys.
