The 22-year-old celebrated for the second year in a row at America’s biggest sporting event after his team’s 25-22 victory in a thrilling overtime final against the 49ers.
George Karlavitis had a great performance in the Super Bowl final, starting in the first few minutes with a crucial fumble (he stole the ball), when the 49ers had started the match furiously.
After the match he celebrated with his family and with the Greek flag on his shoulders. George Karlavitis spoke to ERT about his great success and emphasized that his goal is to return to Greece at some point.
George Karlavitis: Proud to be from Greece
“I always imagined myself as a professional athlete. Growing up, I thought I would be the next Diamantides,” said the champion who has never hidden his love for Panathinaikos.
Speaking about the celebration with the Greek flag, he said: “I wanted to show that I am the only Greek who has done something like this. To show more my pride for being from Greece and for my homeland”.
Regarding whether there are other sectors he is considering investing in, he said: “I’m not sure. I’m still 22 years old. I really like charity. So I deal with them. With different foundations and different purposes here in Kansas City and I want to expand even more in Greece. I want to do camps and things for the youth, the little kids. My biggest passion outside of football and my family and religion I would say was charity.”
His plans include returning to Greece at some point, where he wants to raise his family with his future wife.
