Comedian Hans Teeuwen is allowed to collect the air pistol seized yesterday from the police. Teeuwen says this to the NOS.
The comedian was visited by the police yesterday because of the air rifle that appeared in a parody film he recorded about mayor Femke Halsema. According to the police, Teeuwen had violated the Weapons and Ammunition Act. It states that objects that closely resemble firearms in shape and dimensions are prohibited.
Now Teeuwen can apparently get the weapon back. “I can go pick it up, but I’m thinking: I’ll give it to Halsema as a gift, so they can keep it. As a kind of reminder of Sunday’s shame.”
The comedian is referring to the opening of the Holocaust museum in Amsterdam. Holocaust survivors and relatives were confronted with shouting and jeering demonstrators, who, according to several witnesses, also shouted anti-Semitic slogans.
Mayor Halsema visited Holocaust survivor Rudie Cortissos the day before yesterday, who was confronted by cheers from demonstrators on Sunday. Cortissos and his great-granddaughter played a role in the blessing of the museum at the opening.
Rifle as a reminder
Halsema called the demonstrators’ behavior “horrendous and unjust” on social media. She said she told Cortissos how sorry she was “and that there is never, ever an excuse for anti-Semitism.”
A spokesperson for the Amsterdam police does not want to respond to Teeuwen’s statements. The comedian himself has written in a new post Instagram responded to the situation. In it he repeats that he does not want to pick up the air rifle and asks the police to give the gun to “their boss”, Mayor Halsema, “as a reminder of the shame of March 10”, referring to the protest actions at the opening of the National Holocaust Museum. .
