“I consider her uninformed”: Tohá and criticism of Minister Ávila for “debts” as mayor in the IN | National

“I consider her uninformed, unfair, I’m not going to say,” said the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, about the criticism she received from Marco Antonio Ávila a couple of months ago. Specifically, the head of Education assured that there are “debts” regarding commitments signed with the National Institute, pointing to Tohá’s management in the municipality of Santiago.

The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, referred to the criticism she received from Marco Antonio Ávila a couple of months ago.

At the end of July, the head of Education gave a interview on radio universe Over the acts of violence registered in the National Institute, in the Metropolitan region.

Although he condemned this type of demonstration, he assured that “there is an important group of students, I would say the majority, that is mobilized in the correct way and shows what debts the educational system has.”

“There are commitments and debts signed by previous mayors saying that they are going to recover the infrastructure, of which nothing happened. I mean there is a fair reason behind it, not the expression of violence.”he added.

When asked if former mayor Felipe Alessandri was responsible, Ávila replied that “of Mayor Tohá too.”

It should be remembered that Tohá held the municipal chair of Santiago between 2012 and 2016.

Tohá considers Ávila’s criticism “uninformed”

In the National State program, Tohá stated that he spoke with the Minister of Education before and after his arrival at La Moneda regarding this issue.

“When Minister Ávila made those statements, I don’t know what information he had. I can tell you that at the time we were in the municipality we signed very demanding commitments with the schools, including mainly the emblematic ones”he indicated.

In this sense, the head of the Interior asserted that “giant investments” were made in the National Institute.

Despite this, he said that “That did not alter in the least the agenda of the radicalized groups, because they feed off student unrest, but their agenda has nothing to do with resolving student demands.”

For these reasons, he stated that considers Minister Ávila’s criticism “uninformed”. “Unfair I am not going to say, because in all educational matters, what is the national sport that has been dealt with in Chile? Point the finger at the other sector, instead of looking at the reality of the schools and correcting it,” she added.

Finally, he stressed that they will make a plan with this type of school, together with the municipalities and communities, to restore security within them.
