Though the guest of honor could not take the stage in person, the program moved forward with a familiar face stepping in. Co-star Pat Boone accepted the Cinecon Legacy Award on her behalf following a screening at the Landmark Nuart Theatre.
The two performers share a cinematic history stretching back to the early 1960s, having teamed up for the 1961 musical All Hands on Deck as well as the 1963 film noir The Yellow Canary. Event organizers shared the actress’s deep regret over missing the milestone celebration.
“We’re sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight. “It’s okay everyone! I’m okay! Oh, my goodness there has been a bit of miscommunication. I’m not suffering from an illness; my doctor very recently prescribed a brand-new medication that turned out to have some nasty side effects.”

The actress clarified that her absence stemmed from an adverse reaction to a recently prescribed pharmaceutical treatment rather than any acute sickness. Her physician advised her to remain at home until the physical discomfort subsided and the medication adjustment could be properly managed.
