Alberto González: “I thank God for my second chance”

Alberto González, a prominent Guatemalan athlete, expressed his gratitude to God after overcoming a decompensation that led him to be hospitalized on February 8. Then, on the 19th, the Guatemalan Olympic Committee confirmed his discharge after almost 10 days of treatment.

This Saturday, February 24, in a surprising update, González, 27, shared his experience in an emotional message: “I thank God for this second chance in my life. Glory and honor be to him”he stated in a video shared on social networks.

“I feel very well, I am very grateful to all the Guatemalans who supported me”he added at the close of the publication, conveying his gratitude to the community that supported his recovery.

Three weeks ago, the National Athletics Federation of Guatemala reported on the bronchial problems that affected González, preventing him from completing the Max Tott Half Marathon on January 28. After a brief pause, he resumed training, but on February 7 he experienced decompensation that took him to the hospital.

2023 was a standout year for González, establishing himself as one of Guatemala’s most prominent athletes. He won the half marathon at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, setting a new record and is qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In addition, he broke the Kenyan hegemony in the 2023 Cobán Half Marathon and took bronze in the 10,000 meters at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. His performance earned him recognition as the 2023 Sports Person of the Year by Free Press.
