International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretary General Rafael Grossi left Korea after a two-night, three-day visit to Korea.
Secretary General Grossi departed for New Zealand via Incheon International Airport yesterday (9th) afternoon.
After announcing the IAEA’s comprehensive report on the marine discharge plan for contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, Secretary-General Grossi visited Korea on the 7th and explained the report.
During my visit to Korea, I interviewed the domestic media, met Yoo Kook-hee, chairman of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin, and also met with the Democratic Party of Korea, which opposes the discharge of contaminated water.
Rep. Woo Won-shik of the Democratic Party, who attended the interview, said, “The IAEA position has consistently been ‘support for the discharge of contaminated water’.” I think so,” he said.
Secretary-General Grossi, who made all the remarks, said that this issue is receiving great attention in Korea, and of course he thinks it is inevitable, but he also showed a look of embarrassment at the strong opposition from the Democratic Party.
