Spanish energy supplier Iberdrola has completed construction of what it claims is Spain’s first hybrid wind-solar power plant and is currently undergoing the commissioning process.
The solar power plant consists of a 74 MW solar power plant and a 69 MW wind farm. The former is located in the cities of Revilla Vallejera, Villamidinilla and Vallejer near Burgos in the province of Castile and León in central Spain. Iberdrola invests 40 million euros ($42 million) in solar facilities.
“Iberdrola will be betting on this technology in Spain over the next few years, aiming to improve its existing renewable energy assets,” the company said in a statement.
The energy provider is currently developing and building several hybrid wind-solar power projects in Spain and around the world. Last year, the company completed the startup of two hybrid power plants in Australia and Brazil. It has also received approval to build a 50 MW project in Salamanca, northern Spain.
