Ice hockey: Vienna Capitals and Graz celebrate home wins

The Capitals’ victory was a hard-fought one, and the Linzers – whose coach Raimo Summanen had left the club shortly before “for personal reasons” – sold at a high price. The favorite from Vienna initially ran behind a 0:1 deficit and was not able to break away for two thirds. An effective majority game, which resulted in three power play goals, as well as two Lowry goals in the final third, ensured a well-deserved success for the capital club. The Capitals are now fifth.

Graz, on the other hand, celebrated their second home win against the Hungarian team from Fehervar within 24 hours. After just six minutes, the Styrians were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Grafenthin and Hjalmarsson. When Schiechl made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute, the Hungarians’ resistance was broken. In the fight for the play-off, the two victories of Graz, who are currently tenth, could still be very important. Fehervar is now holding four losses in a row and is fourth. Pustertal moved up to seventh place and is thus hot on the heels of the compatriots from Bozen, who are suffering from the coronavirus and are sixth. Znojmo dropped back to ninth place.

South Tyrol declares itself “not fit to play”

The KAC came to a 5-0 victory against the “unable to play” HCB Südtirol. Due to health reasons, the Bolzano team declared that they were “not able to play” until Sunday. The league announced on Friday. However, the Bolzano team’s request to postpone the two matches against KAC on Friday and Fehervar on Sunday was not granted.

Instead, they are each scored 0: 5 goals against the South Tyroleans, as the Covid special commission decided. According to the league, the medical commission did not find any active infection on Thursday. Nine of the 27 squad players are unavailable due to CoV protocol. Thus, 18 HCB players were classified as “fit to play”, with players from cooperation teams also being considered fit for action.
