Icetex Extends Credit Application Deadlines to 2026: New Dates Revealed

Bogotá, Colombia – The Colombian Institute of Educational Credit and Technical Studies Abroad (Icetex) has extended the deadlines for both fresh educational loan applications and renewals for the first semester of 2026, a move designed to broaden access to higher education for Colombian students. The extension aims to benefit over 100,000 students continuing their studies and open opportunities for new applicants pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programs, both domestically and internationally.

The decision to extend the application periods comes as Icetex seeks to facilitate continued educational opportunities for a significant number of students. Álvaro Urquijo Gómez, President of Icetex, stated the measure is intended to ensure more students can secure the financial resources needed to continue their academic pursuits. This expansion of deadlines applies to various financing lines, offering increased flexibility for prospective borrowers.

New Application Deadlines and Key Dates

The application window for new educational loans and renewals, corresponding to the 2026-1 academic period, is currently open with extended deadlines for different financing options. Students interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) have until March 18, 2026, to apply for the Plan Talento STEM 40% loan. This plan allows students to repay 40% of the loan during their studies and the remaining 60% after graduation. El Tiempo reports these extended deadlines are a key component of Icetex’s efforts to support critical fields of study.

Specific dates for other loan types are as follows, according to Portafolio: new credit applications will be accepted between March 13 and March 20, 2026, depending on the specific financing line.

Increased Funding Available for 2026

Icetex has significantly increased the number of available educational loans for 2026, expanding from 11,000 to 20,000 credits. This increase is attributed to resources generated from the recalculation of the entity’s profits at the close of 2025, as reported by the Presidency of Colombia. The expanded funding aims to support a wider range of students in accessing higher education opportunities.

The renewal of educational credits will benefit students from over 1,100 municipalities across all 32 departments of Colombia, encompassing both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, whether pursued within the country or abroad. Icetex initially opened the application form for new educational loans on February 23, 2026, and will continue accepting applications until resources are exhausted.

How to Apply

The process for applying for new educational loans is available through various modalities, tailored to different profiles and academic areas. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and manage the financing of their tuition. Further details and application procedures can be found on the Icetex website.

As students navigate the application process, Icetex encourages them to explore the different financing options available and to submit their applications well before the deadlines to ensure timely processing. The extended deadlines provide a valuable window of opportunity for students to secure the funding needed to pursue their educational goals.

Looking ahead, Icetex will continue to monitor the demand for educational loans and adjust its programs accordingly to ensure equitable access to higher education for all eligible Colombian students. The success of this initiative will be measured by the number of students who are able to continue or begin their studies thanks to the expanded funding and extended application periods.
