The error at ID Austria was also confirmed by the service hotline upon request from the APA. An update that was rolled out on Friday is to blame; the error should be fixed soon. The bug also has an impact on the work of the investigative committees, as the “Digital Office” allows access to files.
Prestige project by Tursky
The “Digital Office” app was one of the prestige projects of the former State Secretary for Digitalization, Florian Tursky (ÖVP), who most recently failed in the Innsbruck mayoral election. At the beginning of December, it replaced the outdated cell phone signature that is required to log in to digital government channels. Most recently, more than 1.8 million people were registered with ID-Austria, which means they can use over 400 connected services – if the app works.
No official channels possible
But it’s not just official channels that are currently not possible for owners of an Android cell phone with the current version of the app installed. Employees of the parliamentary clubs have so far been able to study files from both current investigative committees via the “Digital Office”. This is currently not possible, several people complained to the APA. The request is still possible in the classic way, but this takes significantly more time.
