Activists circulated on social media a picture showing a citizen holding a marine creature on Glim Beach, east of Alexandria, today, Wednesday, which raised questions regarding its type and how dangerous it is.
An official source at the Central Administration for Tourism and Summer Resorts in Alexandria reassured the citizens, stressing that the object referred to in the circulated image is a type of fish called “marina.”
The source pointed out that the marina fish is found on all beaches and is traded by fishermen in the fish circle in Anfushi, stressing that it does not represent any danger at all.
The “marina” fish is a genus of 12 species of sea snakes. It is common in the Mediterranean, and is abundant in rocky areas. A long fin extends from the head along the back around the tail.
