IDF confirms eight ‘confrontation points’ with Hamas and vows to control all of Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces say there are still eight “confrontation points” with Hamas militants in the south of the country.

IDF international spokesman Lt. Col. Richard Hecht said in a briefing on Sunday: “Israel wakes up this morning to a terrible morning. There are many people murdered. People have been kidnapped in Gaza, not only soldiers but civilians, children and grandmothers.”

“We have lost soldiers, we have lost commanders, we have lost many civilians,” he added.

“In the case of missing or injured people, a hotline will be activated to clarify doubts and for disturbed families. We know how to deal with difficult situations and difficult challenges and we will achieve the goals we need to achieve. We ask the public to continue showing responsibility.”

Hecht said Israel was in the second day of the war. “The important thing that concerns us right now is the stabilization of control in Gaza.”

“We have objectives for the next 12 hours: end the Gaza enclave. Control the entire enclave and kill all the terrorists in our territory,” Hecht said.

“We are probably going to try to evict certain communities in areas of Gaza. As the day progresses, we could evict people from certain areas of Gaza.”

Hecht said at the briefing: “We will exact a very high price if we continue to do this by attacking military infrastructure targets and all Hamas targets.”

Hecht added: “We are prepared with many forces, with an emphasis on Judea and Samaria and the northern area, to stop any event if there is an attack against us. “We are prepared for riots or attempted attacks, if there are any.”

Hecht said that the IDF had neutralized most of the major battles that took place in the Otef settlement, but that there were still ongoing operations in Sderot, Kfar Gaza, Be’eri, Kissufim and Sufa, among other locations.

The IDF was conducting searches and trying to clear the area to ensure no Hamas militants remained within the communities, Hecht said. Populations in communities around the Gaza Strip are slowly being evacuated, she said.

“We will respond severely against Hamas. “It’s going to take some time,” Hecht said.

When asked by a reporter about the intelligence failure that had allowed such a large-scale attack to occur, Hecht said: “This is not a question for now… I’m sure there will be a big discussion in the future.”
