Leading the charge is the launch of a new ongoing “Godzilla” series, helmed by writer Tim seeley (“Grayson,” “Hack/Slash”) and artist Nikola Čižmešija (“Sword of Azrael,” “Batman and Robin”). The first issue, simply titled “Godzilla #1,” kicks off IDW’s ambitious new “Kai-Sei Era,” establishing a shared universe centered around the iconic monster.
According to IDW,the “Kai-Sei Era” begins in 1954,when experimentation with a mysterious energy source awakens Godzilla and other immortal kaiju. in this timeline, humanity has endured decades of near-constant monster attacks. while Japan has learned to treat the kaiju like natural disasters, understanding that attempts to fight Godzilla often exacerbate the problem, the American “G-Force” remains steadfast to fight back. Adding to the Godzilla onslaught is “Godzilla: Escape The Deadzone #1,” written by Ethan Parker and Griffin Sheridan, with art by Pablo Tunica. This series delves into a walled-off section of the Pacific Northwest, quarantined after a devastating Godzilla attack. rumors persist of a half-kaiju, half-human figure roaming the Deadzone, with the power to slay kaiju.
Godzilla will also terrorize another major U.S. metropolis in “Godzilla Vs. America: Boston,” an anthology featuring four stories by Boston-based comic creators. Story credits include Jesse Lonergan, Steve Orlando, and Hayden Sherman, with art by Matt Emmons, Jesse Lonergan, and Hayden Sherman.
