“I’m incredibly happy”: Alina Kornelli qualified for the Olympics

Alina Kornelli is going to the Olympics.

The 23-year-old with Mühlviertler roots – his grandparents are from St. Georgen an der Gusen – was satisfied with second place in the semi-finals of the qualifying regatta ahead of Hyeres (Fra).

“I’m incredibly happy. The whole week was extremely difficult for me: I was afraid of making mistakes, so I couldn’t push hard,” said Kornelli. “That’s why the relief is even greater. I have reached my goal. Now nothing is slowing me down – I can just drive off and give full throttle.”

Valentin Bontus had already qualified in the new Formula Kite. For the Olympic sailing competitions taking place in the summer off Marseille, the Austrian Sailing Association has secured a quota place in six out of ten classes.
