IMF demands transparency in provincial expenditure, tax collections to FBR in new program – Business & Economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has asked Pakistan to bring transparency in the expenditure of provinces in the new program and to give provincial tax collection powers to the FBR.

It should be remembered that the Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is on a visit to the US to discuss the new program with the IMF. The Pakistani Finance Minister also participated in the meeting of the Board of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. Muhammad Aurangzeb had also met the World Bank officials yesterday.

Sources related to the demand of the IMF, the Ministry of Finance says that the International Monetary Fund has asked for new proposals regarding transparency in the expenditures of the provinces in the new program.

In this regard, the sources further said that the International Monetary Fund demanded to hand over the collection of provincial taxes to the FBR, saying that the provincial authorities are not able to collect the full tax on services due to various reasons, while the MF has proposed to digitize the federal and provincial budgets for the next financial year.
