The Colombian-Belgian collective La Chiva Gantiva will transform the Bogotá Planetarium into a multi-sensory immersive experience on November 21, 2026, with their upcoming concert “Vuelve la mugre Colombia.” This performance marks a significant evolution for the group, as they will debut a unique audiovisual approach where every song is accompanied by its own specific visual creation designed to be projected within the venue’s dome.
The event, hosted by the Instituto Distrital de las Artes – Idartes, aims to expand the band’s artistic exploration by articulating music and imagery specifically for the planetarium’s unique space. La Chiva Gantiva will transform their music into images through a production that connects musical rhythms with technological visual arts.
A specialized visual production for the dome
The audiovisual direction for “Vuelve la mugre Colombia” is led by Rafael Espinel, the founder and creative leader of the group. Espinel, who is also a multi-instrumentalist and composer for most of the band’s songs, has developed a specific visual proposal for this concert. Unlike previous performances, these visuals were conceived specifically to respond to the possibilities of the dome, ensuring that the music and the images function as a single, integrated stage production.
Espinel’s background in illustration from the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Brussels informs the group’s graphic and aesthetic identity. His work has previously explored tools such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, and he also directed the music video for “Mugre,” which was released in February 2026 to address themes of digital saturation and algorithmic dependency.
Blending traditional Colombian rhythms with afro influences
Formed in Brussels, La Chiva Gantiva has spent more than 15 years blending traditional Colombian rhythms with afro influences, rock, hip hop, and electronic music. The group has performed in more than 40 countries and has appeared at various Colombian stages, including Rock al Parque, Estéreo Picnic, and the Shock Awards.
The band’s recent discography includes the April 2025 release of the album EGO, a project that explores afro rhythms and triphop through collaborations with artists such as Natalia Doco, Guadalupe Giraldo, and the Panamanian musician Cienfue. Although the members currently reside in Belgium, they are returning to the Colombian capital to present this new immersive format.
