The continuous wave of immigration has led to a decline in the number of schoolchildren in recent years, and some middle schools have to reduce classes. The Committee on Home-School Co-operation (the Home-School Association) released the latest “Secondary School Profile” today (6th), in which it was found that a total of 44 Kwun Jin secondary schools in Hong Kong need to reduce their Secondary One classes, with a total of 46 classes reduced year-on-year.
Two secondary schools will be closed
Secondary schools in many of these areas need to reduce classes to cope with the current problem of insufficient enrollment. In particular, Sha Tin District was the most serious, with a total of 11 classes reduced; followed by Yuen Long District, with a total reduction of 6 classes; and Eastern District and Wan Chai District also lost 4 classes each. The enrollment situation of some secondary schools is very severe. Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School has reduced its Form 1 classes from 4 to only 2 classes this year; while Lung Cheung Government Secondary School and Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School have also stopped admitting Form 1 , after which it will be discontinued. However, there are also 10 Guanjin secondary schools that will each have one additional class.
