Implementing Indigenization in Contract Awards: Kuwait Population Amendment Committee Approves Draft Law

KUWAIT CITY > The Kuwait Population Amendment Committee has approved a draft law to implement indigenization in the awarding of contracts. The approval was given in a meeting chaired by Sheikh Talal Al Khalid, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The draft law is designed to encourage youth to seek employment in the private sector and increase job security for workers engaged in government contracts. And authorities said it would increase the proportion of national employment and create new employment opportunities in government contracts. The Act also states that contractors are obligated to provide employment benefits to indigenous workers, which may include health insurance, annual travel allowances and a structured pay scale.
