Members of M&T Bank are now able to temporarily lock and unlock their debit and credit cards, a feature designed to enhance account security, according to information released by the bank. The service is available through M&T’s digital banking platform.
The ability to lock and unlock cards provides members with greater control over their accounts, allowing them to quickly disable a card if they suspect fraudulent activity or simply misplace it. The card can then be instantly unlocked when We see recovered or the user confirms a legitimate transaction. M&T Bank’s cardholder tools as well include options to activate cards, make payments, and request replacement cards.
Customers who have lost or had their credit card stolen can report the incident online and request a replacement. Debit cardholders have a separate number to report lost or stolen cards: 800-754-4128. For international calls regarding debit cards, the number is 727-227-9012. Credit card loss or theft can be reported at 866-839-3485, with an international number of 727-570-4881.
M&T Bank also offers M&T Assurance®, a fraud prevention and detection service that includes real-time monitoring and security features. The bank’s security measures also include Visa Zero Liability Policy and Visa Secure. Contactless and chip technology are also utilized for safer spending.
Activation of M&T debit cards can be completed at an M&T ATM using a PIN, or by calling 855-485-7043. Credit card activation is available by calling 800-456-6870. Members traveling or residing outside of the US can reach customer service at 727-227-2447.
