At the last municipal council, some residents of the N912 between Spy and Onoz did not appreciate a statement by the mayor, Stéphanie Thoron. Following a question from Dominique Van Dam (independent) concerning possible developments on regional roads, she declared that the N912 was not one of her priorities. They therefore decided to meet to express their dissatisfaction. “It’s disappointing because the inhabitants of the national are fighting for the Commune and the SPW to put in place slowdowns for at least ten years, comments Anne-Lise who lives just after the end of panel 50 towards the entrance to the highway. I actually had a discussion with the mayor about this nearly two years ago. Unfortunately, there has been no change.”
Since it is a regional road, the Commune does not have control over the file. “However, it is up to her to relay, to support our requests to the Public Service of Wallonia, added Liliane de Spy. The main road is divided into several sections with different speed limits: 70 leaving the E42, 50 route de Saussin, 70 rue du Chauffour and then… 90 for Onoz as far as Jemeppe! The problem is that no motorist respects them. In the past, when there was a committee of local residents, we obtained a pedestrian crossing on the Route de Saussin. But other than that… We’re still hungry!” For everyone around the table, the conclusion is as follows: “The road to Saussin is a highway with traffic 24 hours a dayindicate Agnès and Frédéric. This is explained by the creation of commercial zones in recent years which are attracting more and more people. Further on, in Onoz, the conclusions are identical. “It’s not uncommon to see cars take off while passing the level crossingadds Brigitte. Ensuite, when the drivers arrive at the Espace de l’Homme de Spy, they accelerate and find themselves easily at 110 km/h in the direction of Jemeppe“, explains Sandra.
What these inhabitants are asking for is a standardization of speed on this section. “And why not installing a speed camera? That’s the only way to force people to slow down”concludes Liliane while indicating that Jemeppe-sur-Sambre is undoubtedly one of the only municipalities in Wallonia not to be equipped with this kind of device.
Contacted, the Public Service of Wallonia Mobility and Infrastructure (SPW MI) indicates that a project is on the table. “But I can’t tell you more at the moment as discussions are still ongoing”, comments the spokesperson, Sarah Pierre. What is certain is that these relate to a speed reduction project, particularly in terms of signaling. The information should be released in the coming weeks. As for the installation of a radar, there is little chance of seeing this device appear on the N912 insofar as the only one which will soon be installed in Jemeppe concerns the N90.
