IN ORDER to realize the quality of oil palm harvests, the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) through the Directorate General of Plantations with financial support from the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) held harvest and post-harvest training for 144 oil palm planters in the South Sumatra region, originating from Muba Regency as many as 56 people and Muaraenim Regency as many as 88 people, Tuesday (23/04).

Representing the Director General of Plantations, Director of Plantation Protection Hendratmojo Bagus Hudoro said, “The key factor in the success of sustainable palm oil plantations is strengthening the quality of human resources. This needs to be done in order to progress palm oil plantations in the future. It is hoped that this training can be put to good use, he said.

At the same moment, Director of the Yogyakarta Stiper Plantation Community Academy (AKPY STIPER) Sri Gunawan explained that the participants received some technical harvest and post-harvest material from experienced instructors. Starting from the correct way to harvest palm oil, according to standards and criteria to sending the fruit to the factory, and you must pay attention that it should not take more than 24 hours because it will reduce the quality.

“So that farmers get maximum results and companies will also produce optimal oil. “Hopefully, with training like this, oil palm farmers in Musi Banyuasin and Muara Enim can advance to class so that their welfare will also improve,” hoped Sri Gunawan.

The head of the South Sumatra Province Plantation Service, Agus Darwa, said a similar thing, “The SDMPKS development program through training for oil palm farmers is a provision so that oil palm farmers in South Sumatra Province become more competent.”

He explained that in 2023 there will be 6,437 training participants recommended by the Director General of Plantations to BPDPKS with proposed training of around 11 types of training. In 2023, the number of training participants from South Sumatra Province recommended to BPDPKS will be 1,237 people, coming from Lahat Regency (129 people). Muaraenim (272 people), Musi Banyuasin (397 people) and Ogan Komering Ilir Regency (439 people).

“We hope that the participants can take part in the training as best as possible, and implement it during post-harvest and post-harvest activities properly and correctly,” he hoped.

For information, this oil palm planters training will be held from 23 to 27 April 2024, which is divided into 5 classes, with resource persons from the Yogyakarta Plantation Community Academy (AKPY). This activity closed with a visit to the company’s oil palm plantation.

Previously, Andi Nur Alam Syah as Director General of Plantations said the important role of quality human resources was to encourage the quality of palm oil harvests in the future.

“In order to increase palm oil production and productivity optimally, human resources are needed who have good knowledge, skills and competencies. For this reason, since 2021 the Directorate General of Plantations has collaborated with BPDPKS to organize HR development activities for Palm Oil Plantations, one of which is training. “This is in line with the direction of the Minister of Agriculture,” he said.
