“In a very clumsy way”: Baradit criticized Boric for “making the third way a reality” | National

The former conventionalist Jorge Baradit said this Friday that President Gabriel Boric acted “clumsily” by saying that he would promote a new constitutional process if he wins the Rejection in the plebiscite on September 4, since he considers that he created a “third way” and that it affects approval possibilities.

In a conversation with the Association of Chileans in Geneva (Switzerland), the former conventional Jorge Baraditcriticized the announcement by President Gabriel Boric, who this Friday opened the door to a new constitutional process if he wins the Rejection in the plebiscite on September 4.

Baradit criticized the president and maintained that the head of state’s message was “inappropriate”, since he considered that he was evicting the Approval option in the September 4 plebiscite and that it created the “third way”.

“The message consisted of ‘well, if the Rejection wins, we will make another Constitutional Convention’, that is what the Government is going to promote, which really left us all frozen. Deep down, in some very clumsy way, with all the love I have for him, he almost evicted the project.” Baradit said.

“Because there is a bag of people who are undecided, who now give them an alternative, effectively President Boric today just made the third way a reality, which is atrocious”, added the ex-conventional.

Baradit’s words were because this Friday Boric in an interview with Chilevision He maintained that if the Rejection wins – an alternative that has been imposed for months in the polls – “what is going to happen is that we are going to have to prolong this process for another year and a half, where everything is going to have to be discussed again. from scratch”.

At that time, he was immediately asked “Call for a vote to elect conventionals? “Exactly, that is the path that Chile decided to take when it voted on October 25 in a plebiscite for a new Constitution, which is drawn up by a 100% elected body for that purpose.”

Not only Baradit criticized Boric

But Baradit was not the only ex-conventionalist who criticized Boric for his statements this Friday, from sectors of the left they also raised their objections to the president’s words.

The ex-conventional member of the PC, Marcos Barraza, argued that if the proposal for a new Constitution is approved, there will be less uncertainty and that “Rejecting” means continuing with the 1980 Constitution.

“The Approval is in full deployment, it is positioning itself and growing, and I have no doubt that Chile values a Constitution born in democracy and ending the lack of certainty to continue advancing. The matches are played until the end. To reject is to continue with the 1980 Constitution,” said Barraza.

For her part, Camila Zárate, former member of the People’s List, reiterated that there is no “third way.”

“Let’s stop confusing people with ‘third ways’. The vote on September 4 is clear: the current Constitution is maintained or it is changed by the one proposed,” he told Zárate.
