Geronimo Bukosky represents Latin America in a global meeting in Abu Dhabi in which 400 young people from all over the world participate. There he pointed out that in the region “only 20% of children with disabilities are in school.”

Two months ago I told you about Gerónimo Bukosky, a young man from Buenos Aires chosen as a representative of Latin America in a forum of the ONU at Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to talk about disability. Yesterday, Bukosky warned about the lack of educational and labor inclusion experienced by people with disabilities in the region and in Argentina.
“In Latin America, only 20% of children with disabilities are enrolled in school. Not accessing school then makes it difficult to access a decent job in adult life,” he explained. And then he pointed out data from our country: “91% of people with disabilities in Argentina are unemployed. Those 91% are not numbers, they are people. So, this is where we must focus when talking about enhancing the human factor. If we leave people out, we would be attacking the 2030 Agenda promoted by the UN.”
Bukosky, 19 years old, was born and raised in Hilario Ascasubi, a small town in Buenos Aires with less than 5,000 inhabitants, within the Villarino district and 100 kilometers from Bahía Blanca.. From there he arrived at the capital of the United Arab Emirates, where this Monday, October 16 and Friday, the 20th, a United Nations meeting will be held with more than 400 young people from around the world participating to exchange experiences and proposals on trade and development.
The young Argentine, the only South American representative in the Forum, belongs to the Comparlante Foundation, a non-profit organization with consultative status at the United Nations that promotes the rights of people with disabilities. “At Fundación Comparlante,” said Bukosky, “we believe and bet on the potential of technologies. We know that if implemented correctly they can help us combat the gaps that young people live with, creating environments that enhance the capabilities of every human being.” As I told you in this note, Bukosky, an International Relations student, became interested in disability after living with a neighbor who was a wheelchair user.
To get to Abu Dhabi, Bukosky He obtained the plane ticket thanks to an effort carried out by the Argentine Embassy in the Arab Emirates. In turn, Comparlante promoted a solidarity collection to pay for the young man’s stay. Companies such as Palo Verde and Corelite Composites supported the initiative.

They also agreed that, although automation and artificial intelligence are transforming sectors by reproducing routine tasks and hard skills, the human factor cannot be replaced by machines.
At the same time, They highlighted that in this era of digital transformation, mastery of soft skills allows professionals to stand out. And that effective communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability and creativity help create connections, collaborate and face challenges.
