In his Christmas message, PM of Cape Verde is confident for 2023

In his traditional Christmas message, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, stated that Cape Verdeans have reasons to be confident in a better future, particularly praising the entrepreneurial attitude of Cape Verdean youth and not forgetting of the many challenges that the archipelago had to face in the year yet to come.

Ulisses Correia e Silva said that Cape Verde and the world celebrate Christmas in a year still marked by crises caused by the covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. But, in his view, the country has known how to take measures to mitigate the effects of these crises.

“We fought the pandemic well. We invest in health and health safety. We reached high levels of vaccination. We protect jobs, businesses and income. We assist the poorest families, we take care of children, the elderly and people with disabilities. We mitigated the impacts of inflation caused by the war in Ukraine. We took measures to prevent price increases from being even greater. Our action, recognized as exemplary by international organizations, serves as a good example of what we are capable of doing as a Government and as a Nation” said the Cape Verdean head of government.

The prime minister stated that Cape Verdeans must be united and confident in a better future. “It is with this spirit of unity and trust that we will enter 2023. The economy has returned to growth after a sharp drop in 2020. It puts the country in a position to once again create jobs and reduce poverty. Today we have youth with an entrepreneurial attitude that invests in their training, innovates, creates companies and creates jobs. It is this same enterprising and talented youth that has made Cape Verde compete and win at the highest level in basketball, handball, football, boxing, miss international and fitness bodybuilding. It is this same enterprising and talented youth that takes Cape Verde’s music, arts and culture to the various corners of the world”, underlined Ulisses Correia e Silva.

The head of government reinforced that Cape Verdeans have reason to be confident. “We overcame the crises, we are a resilient people with ambition for development. Cape Verde is a respected democracy in the world. Development partners, international financial institutions and investors trust Cape Verde. There are difficulties, yes. But we work hard to overcome them and build a country with quality of life and well-being for people, eradicating extreme poverty is a major priority for the coming years with action on income, productive inclusion and housing”, stressed the chief executive.

In his Christmas message, he also highlighted the fight against crime in the city of Praia with the reinforcement of police action and “the special operations in the neighborhoods of Praia that will continue” guaranteeing that “those who commit crimes will be caught and punished”. .

In another aspect, Ulisses Correia e Silva guaranteed that the government is committed to improving inter-island air and maritime transport and that “TACV is being recovered”, guaranteeing that TACV will return to Boston next year”.

Also, in his traditional Christmas message, the Prime Minister stated that in the coming years, Cape Verde will be a more resilient country, thanks to the investments that are being made to accelerate the energy transition to make the country less dependent on fossil fuels, in desensitization safe reuse of wastewater for agriculture, reducing dependence on rain.
