Children with weakened immune systems and those with genetic diseases that affect the immune system are more likely to develop severe symptoms of Covid-19, the study found. Severe symptoms can even lead to death, according to the study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Children infected with Covid-19 have relatively few symptoms. They experience only minor symptoms. However, only a small number of children develop severe symptoms that lead to death. In this regard, the study was conducted under the leadership of Professor Kwang Pan-Hammerström, Department of Bioscience and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet.

Severe covid symptoms were mainly found in children with low immunity and those affected by genetic diseases that affect immunity. Kwang Pan-Hammerström said that the study says that immune system and other genetic disease analysis should be done in children who suffer from diseases such as multi-inflammatory syndrome along with the Covid infection. Only then will doctors be able to develop more therapies and treatment methods for children.

Studies also show that the variant can be fatal in patients with hereditary diseases and other serious diseases. The Karolinska Institute said that young patients with genetic diseases were selected for the most comprehensive study of the Covid variant. 31 children aged from five months to 19 years were studied. People suffering from genetic diseases also became seriously ill with Covid. Patients for the study were selected from Iran from August to September 2020. The study also says that the covid vaccine is not effective in children with such genetic diseases.
