The year 2023 ended with a major solar flare recorded by NASA Solar Observatory instruments on December 31.

Images captured during the event show large beams of light being emitted by the solar system star.

These flares are actually very strong releases of energy that occur when magnetic energy on the sun’s surface accumulates at the sun’s equator.

They can sometimes cause interruptions in radio communications signals on Earth and pose a risk to astronauts and spacecraft.

A similar and even more powerful event occurred on December 14 when certain radio communications were interrupted for approximately two hours during that day.
