Grocery stores in the six regions most affected by the ice storm will be able to open their doors on Sunday, but some food markets have almost no more perishable food to sell to their customers.

A journalist from TVA Nouvelles found on Saturday that the shelves of a grocery store located in the heart of Montreal were completely empty.

The grocery store in question lost power on Wednesday afternoon and only got it back on Saturday. Refrigerators and freezers had to be emptied by employees and almost all perishable food was thrown away.

Some of the meat was able to be kept in refrigerated trucks, but while the food market has reopened, meat, dairy and other perishable products are absent from the shelves.

According to three employees met by our journalist, the grocery store will probably not be able to open its doors on Sunday, despite the government’s announcement.
Several deliveries will be necessary for the market to replenish its stock.
