Manchester City unveiled today, Friday, the statue dedicated to Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, the club’s historical goalscorer.

This came on the anniversary of crowning the league title for the third time in the club’s history and the first since the Emirates acquired its ownership in 2012, with a goal scored by Aguero in overtime.

The statue is located on the eastern side of the “Ittihad” stadium, joining the statues of Kompany and Silva. The sculpture was made by plastic artist Andy Scott, using thousands of welded pieces of “galvanized” steel.

“Aguero’s statue commemorates his exceptional contribution to the club’s success, and in particular his pivotal role at what is one of the finest moments in sporting history. Manchester City fans around the world will remember him forever,” the club said in a statement.

Ten years ago, Manchester City won the English Premier League after a long wait of nearly 40 years.

Manchester City needed to score two goals during the injury time of the Queens Park Rangers match to be crowned “Premier League” officially, while Manchester United waited for the match to end for the title to go to its treasury.

But Edin Dzeko and Aguero had a different opinion and scored two goals in overtime, so the title went to the “Citizens” treasury with a goal difference.

Aguero commented on the matter, saying: “Actually this is a very good thing for me, seeing myself ten years ago is very moving. I managed to win many titles in these ten years and I was able to help the club to be one of the best clubs in the world, I am very grateful to the club for this The statue is a recognition of my career as a footballer in Manchester. It is very special.”
