A different husband
« I noticed a change at the end of 2015 “confided Emma to the newspaper The Sun. « Simon stopped wanting to go out with friends. He didn’t want to socialize she continued. Her husband becomes more and more reserved, closing in on himself to the point that she suspects an affair. In addition to being distant, Emma notices that Simon picks up bad habits, especially when traveling. A first proof of this was given to him in August 2016. The couple went on vacation to Kefalonia, Greece, with their two sons, Alex, now 26, and Olivier, 21 now.
Two years of battle for her husband
There, Simon seems to forget the conversations that just happened. When they return, Emma is determined to take matters into her own hands. She takes him to see their GP. Simon is then referred to a memory clinic. But her husband constantly misses his appointments. ” After a two year battle we went back to see the doctors in March 2018 as he still didn’t seem well she explained. In June 2018, at the memory clinic, Simon did not undergo any tests. On the other hand, he has an interview with a psychologist. The latter concludes that there is too much stress.
A devastating diagnosis
Worried about her husband’s deteriorating behavior, Emma finds herself sent to the memory clinic again. In January 2020, Simon is finally assessed. He was diagnosed with dementia praecox. Although the result was devastating, Emma admits to feeling a ” feeling of relief finally getting an answer. ” I knew something was wrong and I had been fighting for so long she explained. ” nobody believed me she pointed out.
A deteriorating condition
But soon after Simon’s diagnosis, the UK went into lockdown. For Emma, daily life becomes very difficult. ” He was in the mild stage of the disease but the confinement meant that I asked Simon to take care of himself she revealed. Unfortunately, Simon’s condition deteriorated rapidly. ” He can no longer do anything himself she lamented. ” What makes it easier is that he’s a lovely person and dementia hasn’t changed that. she added.
Help your soul mate
If she hopes that Simon can continue to be cared for at home, she admits that she does not know what the future holds for him. ” Reading the prognosis he will probably go to a house but we will fight against that every step of the way she indicated. ” I have two boys who live here, my mother lives down the street, she helps when she can she confided. Now Emma is looking for a personal assistant who could relieve her and her sons and give Simon a semblance of independence. ” We have been together for 31 years she was moved. ” Seeing the person I grew up with disappear is heartbreaking. But on good days, I think I’m lucky he’s still around she asserted. ” He is my soul mate, the love of my life and always will be. she concluded.
