“Masrawy” monitored a list of a number of pharmaceutical items that witnessed an increase in their prices during the last period, after companies submitted requests to the Egyptian Medicines Authority to review their prices.
The drug market in Egypt recently witnessed an increase in the prices of a number of items at varying rates, while an informed source revealed that this increase extended to 5% of the number of local and foreign companies’ preparations.
And the source had previously explained, in statements to Masrawy, that this increase came in accordance with an “implicit agreement” between the Egyptian Medicines Authority and companies, to move the prices of some items in the wake of the rise in production inputs and moving the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound, explaining that the companies submit weekly requests to the “pricing committee.” the authority to review that increase.
This increase ranged from 15% to 30% of the original price of the drug, and may rise more in limited varieties.
The number of pharmaceutical classes in Egypt is about 17,000, according to a statistic by the Egyptian Medicines Authority, which means that the recent increase has affected more than 800 drug classes during the past weeks.
The list includes:
