WestJet pilots will engage in a labor dispute with their employer on Monday, after a strong relaunch of negotiations in recent months.

The union that represents them has indicated that there are fewer and fewer pilots left in the company, since many of them seize job opportunities and go to work elsewhere.
Bernard Lewall, president of the Airline Pilots Association, told Global News he was keen to stay with WestJet: “Those like me who fight will get to make the change that will make our airline once again more of a professional destination for pilots.”
Mr. Lewall thus presented the three major demands of the pilots: job security, higher wages (to bring them closer to the North American average) and work-family balance.
On Friday, rallies were held outside WestJet’s Calgary headquarters.
The result of the strike, which involves 1,600 members, will be known on April 18.
