Increasingly Painful Hip Forces Jannik Sinner to Withdraw from Madrid Open Quarter-Finals

The Italian, who is suffering from a right hip problem, will therefore not play the quarter-final scheduled for Thursday against Felix Auger-Aliassime, who finds himself pushed into the last four. The Canadian will face the winner of the meeting between Daniil Medvedev and Jiří Lehečka.

An increasingly painful hip

A hard blow for the organization of Caja Magica, but also at the start of the year for the principal concerned. It’s quite simple, Sinner had always reached at least the semi-finals of the tournaments he played in 2024. The winner of the Australian Open had followed up with a success in Rotterdam, a semi-final in Indian Wells, a win in Miami and a semi in Monte Carlo.

He could rightly be aiming to add a bit more to his record for his second tournament on ooker this year. But his hip decided otherwise.

At X, the Italian said he was disappointed not to continue in the competition. “I had discomfort in my hips throughout the week and it was getting more and more painful. We decided not to play so as not to aggravate the situation after consulting the doctors.”

Sinner also indicated that he would undergo further medical examinations in the coming days and that he would follow the recommendations of specialists. The countdown to the Masters 1000 in Rome has started for him.
