They capture a Burmese python of almost six meters long that breaks records

Jake Waleri encountered the snake at Big Cypress National Preserve at 1 a.m. on July 10. In a video that has gone viral, Waleri is seen pulling the huge python out of the grass on the road and wrestling with it as the snake tries to attack him.

Weighing in at an impressive 56.5kg and a staggering 5.79m in length, the record catch was officially verified by Conservancy of Southwest Floridaenvironmental conservation organization.

Following the recommendations of wildlife officials, the snake was later turned over to the Conservancy. Photos taken following the capture show the staggering size of the creature, which might cover four adults.

Burmese pythons, nonvenomous constrictors native to Southeast Asia, have long been an invasive species in Florida, especially in the Everglades wetland region.

These snakes are among the largest species in the world.
