IND vs SA T20I series | Rahul to lead India, Rohit, Kohli rest; Sanju has no place

The Indian cricket team for the T20I Series (IND vs SA) against South Africa has been announced. The BCCI has announced the retirement of captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the five-match series. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will lead the Indian team. Rishabh Pant is the vice captain of the team. Malayalee player and Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been left out of the IPL squad.

Meanwhile, Ishant Kishan, Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya have returned to the team. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s pace sensation Umran Malik and Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh have been included in the squad.

Chennai’s young opener Rituraj Gaikwad will be the opener. Yusvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel and R Bishnoi joined the team as spinners. Injured Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the squad. Youngster Tilak Verma was expected to join the team but it did not happen. Though it was expected that Venkatesh Iyer would be dropped from the team if Hardik returns, the player retained his place in the team. The first T20 match will be played on June 9 in Delhi. The other matches are on the 12th, 14th, 17th and 19th.

The squad for the Test series against England has also been announced. The fifth Test of India’s tour of England, which has been postponed due to Kovid’s expansion, will be played in Birmingham from July 1 to 5. India currently have a 2–1 lead in the series.
