India and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation on semiconductor development, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Federal Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, announced on Thursday.

He said there had been several rounds of talks between the Indian side and Japanese industry, government and academia.

“Today we made a decision by which Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and our Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology signed a memorandum of cooperation on behalf of the two governments,” the minister said, noting that “we will take it forward through our industry-to-industry collaboration and also through government-to-government collaboration.”
